Very well put. It truly is about perspective. When we have been brought up to believe that the laws are no longer valid today, it is difficult to see scripture through a different lens. I changed because God planted a seed 9 years ago through a question a pastor once asked me. Finally that seed took root! Now I'm able to see what scripture so clearly shares, inspiring me to become a bride that is set apart awaiting my Messiah's return.

Thank you for this article! The one part that I'm struggling with, both in terms of Strong's and some of your suggestions, is that it sounds like the "New Testament" is being based on Greek. But 90% of that body of writing was originally in Hebrew, so why are these sources pulling the Greek words and meaning? I'm not a scholar, which I realize was your focus group for this article; I'm a layperson, wife and mother. Which of your suggested tools uses the original text's language when defining words? And do you know of any app versions/resources?

Regarding Matthew 5:17, I was wondering if Yeshua (Jesus) could have been referencing Isaiah 44:26.

Especially in his use of the word ‘fulfill’.

Yes I note that the Greek Matthew 5:17 is very different to the greek used in the LXX Isaiah 44:26.

However the early church fathers said that the Gospel of Matthew was originally written by Matthew in Hebrew, which has long ago been lost.

It is interesting to note that the Shem Tov Hebrew Matthew and the Peshitta New Testament have the same Hebrew/Aramaic word for ‘fulfill’ as that used in the Hebrew Isaiah 44:26:

Shem Tov Hebrew Matthew 5:17 - להשלים to be complete or sound, make whole, pay in full, that is perfect

Peshitta New Testament - definition: to be completed, to perfect. See:

Hebrew Isaiah 44:26 יַשְׁלִ֑ים

Also in the Hebrew Isaiah 44:26 the Hebrew word for confirm is מֵקִים֙

This is the same Hebrew word in Numbers 30:14 - וְהֵקִים֙

then he confirms all her vows or the pledges binding on her

Also the Hebrew Numbers 30:15 word for annuls is הָפֵ֥ר

Which is the same as the annul in the Sham Tov Matthew 5:17 - לִ֑הָפֵ֥ר

"But if he indeed annuls them after he has heard them - Numbers 30:15

I myself am cautious of the Shem Tov Hebrew Matthew, but in this instance, it appears to work with the Hebrew Isaiah 44:26 and Numbers 30:14,15.

2 Thessalonians 3 chapter seems to say that if you don't work and able to work, then you don't eat. Weren't the Israelite slaves in secular Egypt forced to work at any time they were ordered? Couldn't the Father have stopped Egypt if that was a problem? Fast-forward to today, don't most people in America have to work under a likely secular or Sunday churchgoing employer? Most applicable employers in laborious fields require that you work on Saturday(at some point) or you don't eat, because they will hire someone else who will.

Since that is the case, is it alright to work at a job that will hire you until you find something else? And, in the meantime, be praying and searching for something else(even being educated into a field that rarely works on Saturday[librarian/certain gov't work are great examples] or to own your own business)? Some people even have no transportation(depend on others to take them to given location--as meat processing plants) and/or live in a small city without public transport. I say this because 2Thes3 seems to give the impression that you should be working for someone or somewhere--if you are able. ANY THOUGHTS AS I AM CONFUSED?

WOW! I have been praying over this passage and The Holy Spirit used you to show me it's meaning. What a fantastic explanation. The fact that Peter instinctively knew he had better take some witnesses with him to Cornelius' house tells me he understood immediately that this vision was about people and not food. This also explains why when he repeated the vision to the "circumcision" back in Jerusalem, they stood there dumbfounded. They immediately got it too.

I'd like to teach a fun fact about the Exodus. It points out the true sabbath days revealed within the first 3 months of the exodus if we just look closely.

Deuteronomy 5:15 tells us the 15th day of the 1st month was a sabbath, and the Israelites were to memorialize it as such. God told the israelites to remember the sabbath day for it is a memorial of the day he brought his children out of the land of Egypt. So the 15th day of the 1st month was a sabbath. This means the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th days of the 1st month were sabbath days. In the 2nd month, on the 15th day of the month, Exodus chapter 16 explains that God was going to give manna starting the very next day, for 6 straight days, but not on the 7th day, for it is to be the sabbath. This proves that the 15th day aswell as the 22nd was a sabbath. Which means the 8th and 29th days had to be sabbath's aswell. In the 3rd month of the Exodus, Exodus 19:1-2 says "in the 3rd month, on the same day the children of Israel had gone forth from the land of Egypt, the same day they came into the wilderness of siani". This happened as you know, on the 15th day of the 3rd month as stated. Then, on the next day, the 16th day, Exodus 19:10-11 says "and YHWY said unto Moses, go unto the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their cloths and be ready against the 3rd day".
So YHWY spoke to them today (the 16th day), tomorrow (the 17th day) and the 3rd day (the 18th of the month). But 3rd day of what? The 3rd day of the week! So if the 18th was the 3rd day of the week, this means the 15th day of the 3rd month was the sabbath! Which means the 8th day, the 22nd day and the 29th days were also the sabbath.

Friends, do you realize this means the pagan 7 day weekly planetary cycle is not possible in scripture? There is more than 7 days in a row from the sabbath's of the 29th day and the sabbath's on the 8th day. But how is this possible? It's possible if we simply obey YHWYs new moon command. Let me explain. Ezekiel and the prophet Amos both tell us that new moon day CANNOT be one of the work days. "The temple gates are to be OPENED on the new moon day and sabbath days, but the gates are to be SHUT on the 6 work days". So if God tells us new moon day CANNOT count as one of the 6 work days, why are we still counting it as a work day when it takes place on our modern day calendar? We are disobeying God and we dont even realize it. God told us to first observe new moon day. It is a worship day not a work day. We cannot buy or sell on this day according to Amos. THEN, the 6 work days are commanded. When the 6 work days have been completed, we rest on the 7th day. 7th day of what? The 7th day of the week! The new moon is not counted as a week day according to be book of Enoch. This means the 7th day sabbath is according to the lunar moon phases. Here are 2 scriptural witnesses to this fact. Psalm 104:19 "He (God) appointed the MOON for feast days". Leviticus 23 defines the 7th day sabbath as Gods first feast day, to be appointed by the moon.
Ecclesiasticus 43:6-8 "The moon stands at its proper time, a notification of times and an everlasting sign.
7 The sign for a feast comes from the moon, a luminous body that wanes when it completes its course.
8 The new moon shares the character
of its name, increasing wonderfully as it changes, a signal on high for armies, shining in the vault of the sky.

If we believe the word of God as written in the book of Exodus, it is impossible for the sabbath to take place on a 7 day cycle. The new moon day breaks this cycle every single month and the Exodus account proves this.

I was the lunar sabbath's biggest enemy. The holy spirit had to change my heart and open the eyes and ears of my heart in order for me to believe. The lunar sabbath goes against everything we were taught. The problem is that is goes WITH everything God taught in the book of Exodus. Test every verse I gave you about when the sabbath's took place, they do not lie, but they make you and I into liars. The truth becomes revealed once you realize the new moon day CANNOT be counted as one of the 6 work days, according to Ezekiel and Amos. We always teach "work 6 days and then rest on the 7th day sabbath". That is all true, but also incomplete. What I just described is called a "week". But nowhere in scripture does it tell us the week restarts as soon as the sabbath ends. In fact, scripture tells us the weekly cycle MUST STOP in order to properly observe the new moon day. New moon day is not a work day, it cannot be a work day, it is a worship day, with no buying or selling. Here is a 5 minute youtube video that actually shows, using biblical evidence, that in the original Hebrew there was a day before creation day 1. This day is new moon day. God said all of his months must start with new moon day, why would creation week be any different? I beg you to watch the 5 minute video, it will open your eyes to what I am saying. Once you realize the Hebrew scripture testifies to a day before creation day 1, that will then prove that new moon day existed in the beginning, which will reveal the truth that there were 7 days BEFORE the 1st sabbath. God still rested on the 7th day of the week, but it was the 8th day of the month. Wether or not you will listen with open ears and test everything I claim, this video is a must watch

What I said ties into Ecclesiasticus 43:6-8, which tells us the MOON is the sign for all feast days. The sabbath is 100% classified by God as a feast day in Leviticus 23.

Instructions of old testament is different from new testament. Before Christ was a different purpose. The importance is not about eating whether food is clean or not. Eating clean food does not make you clean. Eating unclean food does not make you unclean. This is the point Christ is making. Unclean comes out of your heart. Of course some food may be unfavorable to eat. In the most important context of Christ, it does not matter what you eat.

There's nothing biased about taking note of how many times a Greek word appears in the New Testament. The bias comes with people having agendas and assigning meanings to those Greek words that are contradictory from one instance to the next.

I don't understand why the knowledge of "mankind" changes anything? What's the difference between "man" and "mankind". I believe we are to keep the Sabbath and our family chooses to honor God in that way, however, I still see this Scripture as an opportunity for others to "cherry-pick" the Word of God in defense of NOT following Sabbath. Could one of you please break this down to me so that I can understand how this DEFENDS the Sabbath? Thank you! -Your little sister in Messiah, Sarah.

That makes you a Christian no matter what your parents are, what holidays you celebrate, what day you observe the sabbath, or what name you choose to use for your messiah. If you believe that Jesus/aka Yeshua is the messiah...sweety: You are a Christian. Your jewish descent has nothing to do with your family's conversion to this branch of Christianity. 'Messianic Judaism' is not one of the Jewish movements. It is a xtian denomination. So, if you practice a version of xtianty... you are not eligible for birthright. Sorry...

Provoke to emulation, jealousy is not quite a good translation. However I think this is a political provoking when the Jews see the success of the USA because of the involvement of the true Church's influenced people in political matters. Sadly, I think Scarab is correct, it takes a devastating situation for the Jews to call on the name of Yeshua. Perhaps the largely gentile church witnesses enough of the end-times events that the Jews finally recognize it.

I came across this article when I did a search to see if anyone else was upset at a situation I ran into.
I was doing a presentation on Revelation as I had been taught by Koinonia House. It was in a small group setting and the host of the small group became surprisingly upset when I said the Lord's Day in Revelation 1:10 was not Sunday. So much so I was cut off from continuing with the presentation.

It was very surprising to me.

I'd add one thing, and maybe I missed it. People who are complaining that come group of Jesus followers are not observing the "correct" day have apparently not read Romans 14. Specifically verse 5 but they'd probably have issues with every category Paul addresses in that chapter.

I cringe every time the pastor at the church I attend says that Sunday is the new Sabbath. It is not, of course. Among other reasons, church day is one of the most exhausting days of the week for me.

Right on Brother! Christians are grafted into the Kingdom and Promises of God. There is no difference between Jew or Gentile in Messiah. God's chosen people are those whom follow Yahushua made up of Jew or non-Jew. Jews who believe and Gentiles who believe are the true Israel. The 10 lost tribes of Israel are scattered among the nations are Christians that God is drawing back and restoring their place in the Kingdom of Israel.

Question for the author.
I lived in Alaska for several years. In Barrow, AK, the sun sets in November and it will rise again in January. In May, the sun will rise and not set until July. There is either over two months of darkness or two months of constant sunlight.
How can a Jew or anyone who follows the sundown to sundown Sabbath be true to the Sabbath keeping?

Paul doesn’t throw a separate blanket of honour over “the children of the flesh [biological descendants of Abraham],” but reminds us that wild and natural branches are chosen only “according to the election of grace (Romans 11:3-5)” --_because_ they are "children of promise (Galatians 4:28; cf. 3:29)." He's not being a "triumphalist."

The Word of God _never_ deals in “triumphalism.” A far darker “tendency” is to dismiss His sure Word concerning the biological descendants of Abraham: “Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall your seed be called. That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed (Romans 9:7,8).” That’s why Paul addresses Christian Gentiles of Galatia as “children of the promise”: “Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise (Galatians 4:28; cf, 3:29).”

Romans 11:28, in context, is speaking about Israel, specifically Abraham's biological descendants. Paul, who served his Lord faithfully, admonished us *not* to "boast against the [natural] branches." We must avoid the dark tendency to triumphalism.

Yet, in Paul’s description of himself as a zealous, accomplished, Hebrew Pharisee (Philippians 3:4-6), he counted this as “loss for Christ,” and as “…dung that I may win Christ, and be found in Him (vs. 8,9a).”

Romans 11 tells us only the elect in Christ, “according to the election of grace (v.5)” are honoured, that is, “as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes (v.28).” But Paul hasn’t thrown a blanket of honour over all those who are “a biological descendant of Abraham.”

And Jesus clearly warned against boasting about one’s status as a biological descendant of Abraham. “They answered and said to Him, ‘Abraham is our father’. Jesus said to them, ‘If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham… You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him’ (John 8:39,44).”

Paul, who described himself as a "Jew of Jews and Pharisee of Pharisees," if I recall correctly, also admonished us NOT to "boast against the [natural] branches." Romans 11:28, IIRC, tells us that Abraham's descendants through Isaac are honored / loved "for the fathers' sake."
